ENDSARS; What It Means And The Easy Way Forward.

END SARS!!!

I was on my supposed blogging break but it seems that the universe wants me to come back.

#EndSARS is a social movement in Nigeria that started on Twitter calling for banning of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, a unit of the Nigerian Police Force. It is a call to end police oppression and brutality in Nigeria. The protests started as a social media campaign using the hashtag #ENDSARS to demand for Nigeria’s government to scrap and end the deployment of Nigeria Police Force Special Anti-Robbery Squad, popularly known as SARS. Nigerians have shared both stories and video evidence of how members of SARS engaged in kidnapping, murder, theft, rape, torture, unlawful arrests, high-handedness, humiliation, unlawful detention, extrajudicial killings, and extortion.

About a few days ago the protests and retaliation of the Nigerian youths from online and in person have been the recent happenings.

These all started from the killings and extortion of our youths by the SARS (Special Anti Robbery Squad) officials. This is indeed shameful and disgusting. The authorities that were placed to protect us have now turned against us.

To be honest, this started with the passing of the new police bill that allows police to make arrests without proper investigation.https://thenigerialawyer.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Harmonised-Police-Bill-2020-Adopted-by-Senate.pdf

SARS officials mostly target the male youths. The ones with dreads, fine clothing, iPhone, MacBook or any other laptop, a car etc.

They are supposedly looking for “Yahoo Boys”, those involved in cybercrime. But this duty is for the EFCC (Economic And Financial Crimes Commission).

So we will all fight for Nigeria so we can ensure change. So #ENDSARS TILL THE END!!! The youths are tired and the Nigerian government will hear us!

I am proud to say that yesterday I joined the protest against SARS.

🚫

They have been a menace in this country. I walked like I never have before but it didn’t hurt because I knew I was fighting for a good cause.I just hope all our efforts won’t be in vain✊🏽.

✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽

THE WAY FORWARD

I hope the authorities will adhere to our demands. We are tried of the inhumane treatment from the security unit of the country and also the government.

This should be a wake up call to the government that this generation of youths are different. We will fight for our rights through what ever means we can! We won’t keep quiet!

Just a simple Nigerian girl trying to make a mark in the world 🐾🌹
