I could spot her from miles away. I knew her voice from afar. It didn’t matter that she was in a crowd of people I just could. “Wow, guy you really like this girl oo”, a friend of mine said. “No I don’t”, I quickly retorted. “Daa guy no lie now, the thing de for your face. And trust me e de obvious”, he said laughing.
Common who am I kidding. Lots of people could tell already. But the only oblivious one was her apparently. How could I not, right from time, her uniforms have always been spotless and without a crease. Always so neat and tidy. And she smelled amazing!
As I sat in my class I thought of how I could summon the courage to tell her how I really felt. She has this tendency of laughing when someone tells her they like her.
“What are you thinking of”. I looked up and it was her, looking as radiant as ever. I could never really tell what she was thinking, if she liked me or not. “Emmm nothing. I just have a test this morning that I haven’t read for”, I lied. “Ehh which one”. “I think geography”, I replied. “I wrote the test yesterday. I can help you”, she said pulling me up from my seat and dragging me away, possibly to her class. She could drag me to the end of the earth and I wouldn’t mind.
A week later I finally summed up the courage to tell her how I felt. It was our usual spot at the stairs. She was telling me about something but I don’t know what cause I really wasn’t listening. “Are you even listening to me?”, she asked in an annoyed tone. “I like you and I have for a really long time now. It’s okay if you don’t feel the same way but I just have to let it out”, I said rushed. “I don’t understand”, you replied perplexed.
“Etok Mma, I said I like you”. “Emm… ahhh..ehhh”, she said while backtracking towards the top of the stairs where the classes were scratching her head. “I’m.. I’m late for cla…class? yes!.I’ll see you later”, she said and ran away. “Wait”, I called out. But she was gone.
