The Ills of Uni ❌👨🏽‍🏫❌

I don’t know about private universities in Nigeria but the public universities in Nigeria are something else. With the recent trend #SEXFORGRADES ,I decided to shed a little light on the ills of the public university in Nigeria.

SEX FOR GRADES
This act is carried out in almost or if not all public universities in Nigeria. This is when a lecturer makes his or her students to sleep with them in return for passing the student in a course. Or in some cases the student offers his or herself in exchange for grades. This act is not condoned in the university but you would be surprised at how rampant it is that it is almost normal when you hear it in school.

When I first got into school they were placards in the administrative office that chasitsed sex for grades or soliciting of any kind. But despite this, it still goes on. This is very sickening. A lot of female students are subjected to sleeping with their lectures to pass a course. Sometimes they go willingly ,or out of frustration because of how many times they have carried over the course. Most of the time they still fail the student .🤦🏾‍♀️ Or if they have sex with you once they will make it a continuous affair.

This doesn’t affect just the female students but also the males. Yes I said it,female lecturers do it too. It’s rare but it happens . And it’s so sad that people hardly talk or create awareness about it.

There is a male lecturer that is known for operating this supposed policy in school that any discussion about this topic,his name will slip from a lot of people’s lips. He is a terrorist in school. It is often said that once he is done sleeping with you, he will taunt you about it in front of the whole class.

Am sure you’re probably wondering why this doesn’t get reported and this is something that has been happening for decades. This is probably because the authorities that are meant to take disciplinary actions on them are in on it too or they used to do it and it becomes a, “you used to do this too. So why do I get punished for this” . Or “I had your back back in the days, so you have to back mine”.

The male lecturers intimidate the female students and inflict the fear of failing the course and coax the students into keeping quiet too so as not to get caught. It’s so funny how I have gone from watching it in movies to seeing and hearing it in the four walls of my university.You would be surprised at how rampant it occurs that once upon a time I used to talk about it like it was a joke not knowing the index to it. Now it is almost normal hearing that a lecturer wants to sleep with someone.

One day a friend of one of my roommates came back from school and was like, “make una come ooo gist de gist de”. So we all went to her to hear the gist.
“Emm my lecturer bin talk say make we come submit our assignment one by one”.
“Naso my turn come reach and as I enter him office, he talk say make I lock door. Me I de confused sha but I do am”.
Then she switched back to normal English. “You know how when you want to lock a door, there are only two turns to get it locked”. Then we all nodded in agreement and she continued, “so I twisted the key the first time, then I twisted back again. He will now think that the door is locked but it actually isn’t. Abi you get “. We all nodded.

She went on to tell us that the man said that she should give him a massage before she submits her assignment. As she was massaging him the man brought out his private part and started touching himself and told her to come and help him out. She screamed and got her handbag and ran out of the office. And as she did,she heard him say in a distance, “just know that your CA is gone”. This was the first time that someone relatively close to me has had this kind of encounter.

Another one just happened a few days ago. It was in the exams hall. Yes exams hall,it has gotten to that. The lecturer just went around and stopped at a particular girls table that was a few rows in front of mine and said to the girl, “see this fine girl oo. Are you even up to 17”. I assume he asked that seeing as she was quite petite in structure. She said she was. Then he looked at her in a way I supposed he was trying to be seductive and licked his lips and said, “class rep I want you bring this girl to my office unfailingly “. He said smiling.

So the public university is a different world on its own with entirely different rules. These are but a few stories. I know someone that was meant to graduate last year but because she didn’t agree to sleep with her lecturer,he made her Carryover the course which in turn made her to stay an extra year in school.

I really don’t know how this is going to stop in this country. It has been a subject of discussion for years,yet nothing has been done.I can only hope that a change will happen because even if we report the lecturers they will make our lives a living hell in school.A lot of people have not graduated because of this. I hope and pray that our universities will change its ill ways.
